
The awarding ceremony for the top ten figures in technological innovation in 2004 was held in the Great Hall of the People recently. Wu Jianping, professor from Department of Computer Science and Technology, director of the network centre in Tsinghua University, and director of the academic committee of China Education and Research Network (CERNET), was selected as one of the awardees in the celebration
When he was asked what the biggest problem for internet development in China, Wu attributed it to a lack of intellectual property protection. “The ultimate goal for us is to establish the best next generation internet in the world,” said Wu.
The annual voting for the top ten figures in technological innovation nationwide was launched by Science and Technology Daily and supported by 15 other Beijing-based media. The ten selected figures, coming from a variety of research areas, are all committed to the technical innovation. They are making significant contributions to promoting the progress of economical and scientific development of the society.
