
Renowned Professor Wang Xiaoyun was invited as a C.N.Yang Professor of Tsinghua on the ceremony held June 13 in honor of the appointment.
Tsinghua President Gu Binglin, Professor C. N. Yang, the Nobel Prize Winner, Professor Andrew Chi-chih Yao, the Turing Award Winner, and Professor Nie Huatong, director of the Center for Advanced Study, attended the ceremony.
President Gu welcomed Professor Wang to join Tsinghua, saying he hoped that the arrival of Professor Wang will advance the development of the related disciplines in Tsinghua.
“I like the academic atmosphere here,” said Professor Wang.
Wang Xiaoyun:
Professor Wang Xiaoyun was born in 1966 in Shandong Province. She got Ph.D in Mathematics in Shandong University in 1993 and was a Professor of Shandong University before she came to Tsinghua.
She was reknowned for breaking two international cipher systems for electronic communications, MD5 and SHA-1, spotting loopholes in the latter.
Professor Wang first declared her research results on MD5 at an international cryptography conference held in the United States in August 2004. Then, in February, she made a breakthrough in spotting loopholes in SHA-1.
