Tsinghua Professor wins SCEJ Award

Xu Jianhong, a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua University, was recently recognized with the SCEJ Award as Outstanding Asian Researcher and Engineer.

The award, launched by the Society of Chemical Engineers of Japan, recognizes individuals with outstanding cognition, views and achievements in chemical engineering.

At the invitation of the SCEJ, the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC) recommends one candidate on behalf of the academic organizations in the chemical engineering circle on the Chinese mainland every year.

Xu was recommended by the CIESC and invited to give a report at the 87th annual meeting of the SCEJ in March 2022.

Xu is mainly engaged in basic research on the application of micro-chemical processes and multi-phase microfluidic technology, focusing on major national needs and the frontier research of chemical engineering, ranging from fundamental research to application.

He has made a group of original and innovative achievements in new micro-dispersion method and modeling, micro-scale mass transfer characteristics and the development and industrial application of new micro-chemical equipment, which have advanced the sustainable green development of the chemical industry.

Xu has won many national, provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, including a second prize of the National Technology Invention Award as the fifth author, and a first prize of the CIESC Science and Technology Award as the first author.

Xu, a native of Zhejiang province, is a Professor and doctoral supervisor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in engineering and his doctorate at the department in 2002 and 2007 respectively.

He did postdoctoral research at the department between 2007 and 2009, and began to work at Tsinghua from June 2009. From July 2012 to June 2013, Xu was a visiting scholar at Harvard University in the United States.
