CISS holds Ambassador Roundtable on Climate Change and China-Europe Cooperation

A roundtable dialogue on climate change and China-Europe cooperation was held in Beijing on August 23.

The event was organized by the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS) of Tsinghua University, the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS), a think tank affiliated with the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration (CFLPA), and the Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions.

At the event, Xie Zhenhua, China's special envoy for climate change affairs, explained China's standpoint on climate change, identified the common interests of China, the United States and European countries in this field. He responded to Europe's expectations for China on climate change, and discussed the prospects for China-Europe cooperation. He also shared China’s solution to climate change in detail.

Fu Ying, Chairperson of CISS and former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, who moderated the roundtable meeting, said that climate change is the most consistent focus of attention between China and Europe. The two sides not only have reached a broad consensus, but also advocate solving the problem within the framework of multilateralism, she noted, adding that China and Europe should strengthen their dialogue and cooperation in this field.

In his closing remarks, Yu Tao, Deputy Director of the CFLPA, said that the administration would continue to support ACCWS to play a supportive role as a think tank and an institutionalized platform for experts and envoys to exchange candid opinions, share insights, and enhance mutual understanding.

The roundtable was also attended by ACCWS President Yu Yunquan, 24 envoys and senior diplomats from 19 European countries and the Delegation of the European Union to China.

The envoys and senior diplomats expressed their belief that the pragmatic and frank dialogue would help to enhance understanding and deepen cooperation between China and Europe, and they looked forward to participating in such activities in the future.
