Personal Introduction

HAO Jiming, Professor in School of Environment, Tsinghua University, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Foreign Academician of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. He was also among the first group of distinguished professors appointed under the Ministry of Education's Yangtze River Scholars Award Program. He earned a bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University in 1970, a master’s degree from Tsinghua University in 1981, and a doctorate degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1984.

Prof. Hao’s major research interests are energy and the environment, air pollution control, greenhouse gas reduction, and circular economy. He led the designation of China’s acid rain control measures, developed the methodology of urban vehicle pollution control planning, and pushed the process of China’s vehicle pollution control. He also developed theories and technical strategies for improving air quality in megacities and promoted the joint regional air pollution control in China. With his outstanding accomplishments, He has been awarded two First-Class Prizes and two Second-Class Prizes for the National Science and Technology Advancement Award, one Second-Class Prize for the National Natural Science Award, and one Second-Class Prize for the National Technological Invention Award. Additionally, he has received Haagen-Smit Clean Air Award, the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize, the China "Most Beautiful Scientific and Technological Workers" honor, and China Environmental Award.

He was the head of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University;Deputy Director of the Teaching Committee of Tsinghua University;The First Batch of Changjiang Scholars Award Program of the Ministry of Education (1999-2004);Member of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development;Convener of the Environmental Science and Engineering Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council;Director of the Environmental Science and Engineering Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education.

He is currently the dean of the Institute of Environmental Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University,Member of the National Expert Committee on Ecological and Environmental Protection.
