Short Biography

Dr. Dongbei YUE is a Professor and the Associate Dean of the School of Environment at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and Doctoral Degree in Radiation and Environmental Protection both from Tsinghua University. He has over 15 years of teaching, research and consulting experiences focused on two primary areas: solid waste landfilling and humification/stabilization of bio-mass waste, with specific interests including leachate treatment and recycling, landfill gas collection and utilization, sustainable landfilling, organic waste humification and beneficial utilization of humic products. His research includes laboratory studies, field experiments, and full-scale engineering demonstrations. He has developed an integrated 2-stage Submerged Combustion Evaporator, which has found an increasingly wide utilization in the leachate treatment field in China and created a market value of 450 million RMB in 2019, providing currently the only practical solution for treatment of the final membrane concentrate. Dr. Yue holds 16 authorized patents and authors over 80 peer-reviewed publications and presented at over 30 international conferences. He currently serves as Editorial Board Member of Mehran University Research Journal of Engineering & Technology and Co-Chair of World Conference on Waste Management (WCWM). In addition, he has served as a reviewer for more than 20 journals and organizations. Dr. Yue has received several awards for excellence in research and teaching. His 2-stage Submerged Combustion Evaporator for leachate treatment received Second Prize of State Technological Invention Award (2014, awarded by the State Council of China) and Second Prize of Innovation Achievement Award (2019, awarded by China Industry-University-Research Collaboration Cooperation) for its wide application. He also won the Young Scholar of Distinction Award (2016, Tsinghua University) and the National Teaching Achievement Award of Higher Education (2019, Ministry of Education of China). He was named National Young Top-notch Talent of Environmental Protection Technology in 2016 by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China.
