Bibliography

Dr. Yi Liu received his bachelor’s degree and PhD in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from Tsinghua University in July 1999 and July 2004, respectively. In March 2001 he joined the Group of Environmental Policy at Wageningen University in the Netherlands and obtained his second doctorate in Social Science in May 2005. He came to the International Institute for Applied System Analysis in Austria in August 2006 and did a postdoctoral research on global phosphorus cycle. During May 2006 to December 2008, Dr. Liu worked as a lecture in the School of Environment, Tsinghua University. He became an associate professor in 2008, and has been promoted as a full professor since 2013.

Dr. Liu is engaged to a cross cutting-edge research of environmental systems analysis and impact assessment. His interest includes the complex environmental systems change and sustainability, focusing on the mechanism and governance strategy of the potential environmental impacts of technological progresses and social behaviors. The research themes mainly include: urban expansion and infrastructure development; industrial restructuring and (re-)allocation; the complexity of economic and social systems and environmental impacts; the nexus of water, energy, food and emissions of urban and industrial systems; strategic environmental assessment of planning and policy; integrated waterbasin modeling and management. Dr. Liu has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles and 10 books and registered 17 software copyright. In 2013, he was twice awarded by Ministry of Environmental Protection (1st class) and Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (2nd class). In 2016, he was awarded as National Leadership of Environmental Protection.

Dr. Liu is currently a chair of Young Scientist Committee, a deputy chair of Environmental Impact Assessment Committee, and Environmental Planning Committee of Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences; a deputy chair of Council of Water Industry Academy, China Civil Engineering Society; a deputy chair of China Urban Water Association; and a committee member of Society of Management Science of China. He was a Member of Management Board of Europe-China Clean Energy Center during 2010-2016, and Deputy Director of Asian-Pacific Water Security Center, jointly initialized by Asian Development Bank, Ministry of Finance of China, and Tsinghua University.

Dr. Liu was assigned as Assistant Dean, School of Environment, for international relations and collaboration programs during 2006 to 2010. In 2014, he was promoted to be Chairman of Council of School of Environment, Tsinghua University. In 2019, he was promoted to be Dean of the School. In 2017, he was nominated as Director of Research Institute for Environmental Innovation (Suzhou), Tsinghua University. Since 2010 till now, Dr. Liu has been assigned as the Director of Research Center for Strategic Environmental Assessment, Tsinghua University.
