SOE, Tsinghua, January 4th,2021 (correspondent: Yang Chunli) To adapt to the rapidly evolving research and practice of water reuse, Journal of Water Reuse and Desalination, an SCI journal published by the International Water Association (IWA), has been renamed as Water Reuse. The journal will officially launch online in January 2021 with a new editorial board. Hu Hongying, professor at the School of Environment, Tsinghua University, and Stephen Gray, professor at the Victoria University, Australia, are co-editors-in-chief.
The UN report points out that water shortage and water environment pollution are two of the greatest challenges facing mankind in 21st century, and water recycling is an important way to solve these problems. Unlike conventional water supply and wastewater treatment, water reuse is a complex, non-traditional water supply project with many new scientific and technical challenges. The launching of Water Reuse will be a critical milestone in the development of water reuse.
Hu Hongying and his research team have been focusing on water reuse for a long time, and have made great progress in many areas, including evaluation methods of reclaimed water safety of risk control theories, reclaimed water treatment and safe utilization technologies, urban and regional water reuse systems. They have promoted the international standardization of reclaimed water and supported the large-scale utilization of reclaimed water. Due to his excellent work and outstanding contributions in water reuse field, Hu Hongying was elected as IWA Fellow. He also served as the first chairman of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Subcommittee on Water Reuse in Urban Areas and co-chairman of the Asian Symposium on Water Reuse, raising China's international influence in the field of water reuse.
For further development of the Journal of Water Reuse and Desalination, IWA invited Hu Hongying to be the editor-in-chief in July 2020. With Hu Hongying 's advocacy, IWA decided to rename the journal as Water Reuse and formed a new team. A new plan was outlined with new positioning, topic selections, and content sections.
IWA is a leading international organization in the water sector for over 7 decades. Many experts from universities, research institutions, engineering firms, consulting firms, and utilities have been members, giving the organization far-reaching impact globally. Journal of Water Reuse and Desalination, first published in 2011, is one highly valued journal among 17 international professional journals published by IWA. Amended as an open-access journal in 2016, the journal has gained rapid growth and greater influence over the years.
