The GAeF PhD award is granted to young scientists whose ideas have provided decisive stimulus in their area of aerosol research and who are recognized as outstanding among their peers in their field. The distinction is based on an outstanding doctoral thesis that has been submitted no more than 2 years before the call for nominations. The GAeF PhD Award can be annually awarded to a maximum of two early career scientists. The names and achievements of the awardees will be published in the Journal of Aerosol Science and on the GAeF homepage.

Dr. Cai received his Ph.D. degree in environmental science and engineering at Tsinghua University in 2019. His thesis addresses nucleation and growth of atmospheric secondary aerosols. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research, University of Helsinki, and received funding from the Academy of Finland. Runlong’s thesis led to significant progresses in characterizing sub-3 nm aerosols and understanding new particle formation in polluted urban atmospheric environments.
