The 19th National Environment-friendly Science and Technology Competition Launched at Tsinghua University

On the afternoon of April 27th, the launching ceremony of the 19th National Environment-friendly Science and Technology Competition (referred to as "NEFSTC") was successfully held in the East Hall of the School of Environment (SOE), Tsinghua University. Prof. Peng Gang, Vice President of Tsinghua University, attended the event.

Prof. Peng Gang gives his speech

Prof. Peng Gang affirmed the achievements of past 18 NEFSTC events and congratulated the launch of the current event. He stated while economic and social development levels have significantly improved, ensuring that we truly achieve a happy life, maintain physical and mental health, and realize sustainable development is also very important and challenging. NEFSTC provides a platform for us to discuss current and future environmental issues, and stimulates the innovative enthusiasm of young students in the field of environment. On the occasion of the 113th anniversary of Tsinghua University and the 40th anniversary of the School of Environment, Prof. Peng Gang hopes that students dare to innovate, do not fear failure, and exercise and grow together in the competition.

Prof. Wang Zhiwei gives his speech

Prof. Wang Zhiwei, Dean of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University, stated that NEFSTC has always been talent oriented. The competition actively encourages college students to participate in the great practice of eco-friendly environmental protection jointly with unique classroom concepts and innovative thinking, which provide an excellent environment for cultivating high-quality innovative talents. He hopes through this competition, students could enhance their learning abilities and improve the quality of their work through mutual learning and exchange. Prof. Wang also wishes students to improve their research capabilities, explore unknown fields bravely, and propose innovative ideas and solutions during the competition. He expects everyone to apply innovative thinking to daily life.

Prof. Cao Hongwei gives his speech

Prof. Cao Hongwei, Chairman of School Council at the School of Environmental and Municipal Engineering, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, stated that under the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping’s thoughts on ecological civilization, China's environmental protection cause has undergone historic transformations and achieved historic accomplishments. These have provided a rare opportunity for talent cultivation in the field of environmental disciplines and have set newer and higher standards for talent development. Standing at a new starting point, he firmly believes that the NEFSTC can provide a broad platform for the cultivation of top innovative talents in the environmental field and create fresh experiences.

Liu Xiangyun, the student head of organizing committee of the 19th NEFSTC and a doctoral student from the School of Environment, reported on the conduct of previous sessions and the preparations for this session of the competition.

Subsequently, the attending leaders and guests stepped up the stage together to launch the 19th National Environment-friendly Science and Technology Competition.

Experience sharing by outstanding participants from previous sessions

Zhu Shaoqing and Lin Bowei, two undergraduate students at Tsinghua University, and Bai Jiangtao, an undergraduate student at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, shared their experiences as representatives of outstanding participants from previous sessions of the competition.

Dr. Chen Xi, an associate researcher at the School of Environment, alumnus Huang Ruikun, and doctoral students Xu Chenyang and Ouyang Daiwei, shared their experiences and insights on the theme "Tsinghua Students in NEFSTC".

A total of over 60 people attended the event, including: Prof. Wang Can, Chairman of the School Council of School of Environment, Tsinghua University; Prof. Lu Lijun, Vice Chairman of CESE School Council, Tongji University; Prof. Fu Shengwei, Vice Chairman of School Council and Associate Dean of the School of Environmental and Municipal Engineering, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology; Wan Zhengmao, Associate Dean of the Research Institute for Environmental Innovation (Suzhou) Tsinghua University; representatives from Geberit (Shanghai) Trading Co. Ltd.; the organizers and co-organizers of the competition; and winners of previous sessions of NEFSTC.

The National Environment-friendly Science and Technology Competition is open to students from various majors at universities across the country. The competition aims to advocate the concept of resource conservation and environmental friendliness. Via academic competition and other forms of activities, it encourages university students to apply their unique scientific innovation concepts and inventions to the construction of a harmonious society that is both resource-efficient and environmentally friendly.
